ASP@sia (Active Server Pages at Spectacles Internet Archives) is a search engine for the Archives et Musée de la Littérature (Archive and Museum of Literature), in the Bibliothèque Royale. Without any claim to completeness, its aim is to set up as broad as possible an account of the performing arts in the French-speaking Belgian community.
As the successor to L'Annuaire du spectacle, the database lists by season the productions created, revived or touring in French-speaking Belgium, with a directory of the country’s professional theatres, companies and festivals and a summary of the artistic careers of the participants.
Continuously updated and already virtually complete from 1990 to the present, the database is steadily being built back for the preceding years, with the intention of reaching as far as possible into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Areas covered include theatre for adults and young audiences, happenings, opera, dance and the arts of circus and street theatre.
A partnership has been developed with several theatres and companies in Brussels and Wallonia who take part by processing their own archives. In return, ASP@sia links in various forms to their websites.
Advanced search is by author, director, performer, season, theatre, company, town...
